Announcement (Effective May 1st, 2021)

Candidates are required to wear a face mask and bring the signed liability waiver to testing. Candidates under the age of 18 will not be allowed to test without a parent/guardian signature on the liability waiver.

Steps to Register for the NNAAP® Nurse Aide Exam

Complete nurse aide training program

Student must complete the state-approved nurse aide training program.

If you did not complete a state-approved training you may still register under a different eligibility route as listed in the Candidate Handbook.

Review Candidate Handbook

Your Candidate Handbook is your handy guide to answer all the questions you have about submitting an application, scheduling, taking an exam, getting score results, and much more.

Complete and submit application

You are responsible for completing the appropriate sections of the Examination Application. You may ask someone from your nurse aide training program or facility employer for assistance in completing the application.

If you need help or have any questions about the application, please contact a Credentia Customer Service Representative at (877) 437-9587.

All required documentation (application, fee, and a copy of your training program’s certificate of completion) must be received twelve (12) business days before the examination date.

Receive Authorization to Test Notice

Once we receive your application, required documents, and fees, we will schedule you for testing. Credentia will mail your Authorization to Test Notice letter to you at the address listed on your application within forty-eight (48) hours.

Your Authorization to Test Notice letter has important information about the examination. If you do not receive your notice within ten (10) business days, please contact us.

Contact the Alabama Department of Health to:

  • Obtain information on official regulations and guidelines for nurse aides

  • Find out if you are currently listed on the Registry (or go on-line to www.adph.org, click on contents a-z, click on Nurse Aide Registry, type in your SSN and print friendly at the bottom of the page)

  • Clarify information about the Registry

  • Obtain information regarding reciprocity to Alabama

  • Obtain information regarding endorsement to other states (call the state in which you want to transfer)

  • Obtain information on continued certification on the Registry (or go on-line at www.adph.org to the frequently asked questions section)
